Novel Assignment Written Explanation

Animal Farm Poem: Explanation

I wrote my poem based on the part of my novel where Napoleon the master pig and leader of the farm secures complete and utter control of the farm through intimidation and brute force. One day, after a terrible storm, the animals found the windmill they had been working on for months toppled over. The human farmers in the area declare smugly that the animals made the walls too thin and overwhelming evidence suggests this too be true due to the massive storm that had just struck. But Napoleon claims that Snowball the intelligent rival pig he had banished from the farm returned to the farm to sabotage the windmill. He stages a great gathering, during which various animals who have allegedly participated in Snowball’s great conspiracy meaning any animal who has opposed Napoleon’s uncontested leadership meet instant death at the teeth of the attack dogs. After the brutal massacre he gets his propaganda leader Squealer to announce to the remaining animals they would no longer sing ‘’Beasts of England’’ instead Napoleons new propaganda chant ‘’Animal Farm’’ would be the tune sung every morning.

Figurative language assignment

Shakespeare uses figurative language to help shape the readers understanding and appreciation of Macbeth in a number of ways and without this figurative language the play would be less understandable, relatable, and entertaining. One way he does this is by using Personification. “It will have blood, they say. Blood will have blood. Stones have been known to move, and trees to speak (III,iv,124)”. The main example of personification in this quote is “and trees to speak” as Shakespeare gives the human quality of speaking to trees which trees cannot do of course. Without this personification, the play would be dry and not very entertaining. Also, by doing this, Shakespeare leaves a mental image in your head by giving human like qualities we can relate to and makes the play more understandable and relatable since it is written in old english and is hard to understand at times. This personification, is one way Shakespeare shapes my understanding of Macbeth easier.
Another way Shakespeare uses figurative language to help shape my understanding and appreciation of Macbeth is through the use of Oxymorons. Even though at times contradictory words can be confusing, I find they help in Macbeth. “Fair is foul, and foul is fair (I,i,11)”. This is an example of an oxymoron that is used in Macbeth and leaves readers interested and wanting to read more as the quote contradicts itself with the use of the words “foul” and “fair” which adds a bit of a mysterious mood to it. This oxymoron is another way Shakespeare helps shape my appreciation of Macbeth better.
A third way Shakespeare uses figurative language to help shape my understanding and appreciation of Macbeth is by frequently using Allusion in numerous ways. An example of Allusion in Macbeth would be in the quote, “Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood clean from my hand (II,ii,77-78)”. In this quote, Macbeth is calling out to Neptune, who is the god of water and sea to wash the blood clean from his hands, since he believes the guilt and blood of killing the king on his hands will not be washed away even with all the water in the sea. The Allusion in this quote would be Neptune as Macbeth is making a reference to him. The use of Allusion, is yet another way figurative language helps shape my understanding of Macbeth.
Personification, Oxymorons, and Allusion are all ways Shakespeare uses figurative language to help shape my understanding and appreciation of Macbeth. Without these, Macbeth would be harder to understand, harder to relate to, and be a lot more boring.

Macbeth Parody

Macbeth Parody

Bubble, bubble, deep fat trouble.
Big fat guts and chins that double.
Burgers, and fries and apple pies,
all go in the deep fat sighs.
Bring your child all pink and rosen,
Fill them up on trans fat poison,
Trying to stay healthy and ordering a salad
Before you know it calories are added
For a dollar more get the large fries
Before you know it your supersized
Your mouth starts to water
This burger couldn't be any hotter
Grease oozing from the cracks
The fat piles up stacks on stacks
Come in for one meal a day,
Soon your waist will fade away.

Macbeth Journals

Journal #1
Today I fought hard on the battlefield with my man Banquo. We obliterated Macdonwald and every last member of his forces. Banquo and I just sliced through there ranks like butter. By the time we got to Macdonwald, the so called battle was all but done. I met Macdonwald and I swung my sword and sliced straight through his pitiful body. Just when I thought the fun was over, there were more! But Banquo and I destroyed the army with the ferocity of true warriors. I even faced the mighty King of Norway, who I am now hearing was assisted by a traitor. I am hoping this traitor is put to justice as soon as possible! I cannot wait to get back to camp too see my friend Duncan and celebrate our recent success.

Journal#2
Yesterdays events are most troubling. As Banquo and I traveled to King Duncan's castle, we were approached by three witches. As soon as we met, they flattered me with titles I have not yet acquired and spoke of grand prophesies for us both. Banquo and I were just beginning to analyze the prophecies when Ross and Angus arrived. They came saying how the King heard of the battles. They said he told them to give me the title 'Thane of Cawdor'. He was the traitor! And he was put to death today. I am the Thane of Cawdor but this means the witches were right. Are they right about becoming king too? I'd have to kill Duncan and get away with it. I should not think of such ridiculous things. However, I cant wait to tell my wife who I miss dearly of the news!
Journal #3
I don't know how I got into this mess. My wife is simply impossible to say no too sometimes, but I'm getting ahead of myself. When I got to King Duncan he was so pleased with me that he wanted to celebrate our victory at my castle. This was a perfect opportunity to put an end to him secretly. We decided we'd kill Duncan and seize the opportunity as it may never come again. The night he arrived, we had a great feast. However, I was unable to enjoy the festive banquet because my mind was occupied with pressing matters. I decided I was not going to do it. As I stood up to return to the banquet my dear wife came out. I tried to tell her I wouldn't do it but as always, she convinced me to go through with it. Tonight will be the last of Duncan's life.

Journal #4
I have realized that Banquo could discover that it was I who killed Duncan. He was there when the witches told us our future, its just a matter of time till he realizes it was me. So I had to do what I must have to keep me and my family safe. I ordered three murderers to kill Banquo and his son. I told the murderers  specifically I wanted no connection to the mission. Tonight they returned, saying Banquo is dead, but Fleance escaped. I said I would deal with the new problem later, because I was hosting a banquet. I am terrified of what I saw at tonight's banquet . I think I am going mad. I swear I saw Banquo's ghost at the banquet it stunned me I tried to ignore it and entertain my guests by dancing and eating but he just stood there staring at me. My guilt has taken over, I dont know how much more of this I can take.

Journal #5
Macduff has been acting very strange. He did not come to the banquet and rumor has it he fled Scotland entirely. I went back to the witches to beg them to tell me more this time. They told me to beware of Macduff. They also said I could not be defeated by any man born of a woman and that I didn't need to worry until Birham Wood starts to move. For what man is not born of a woman? And what forest can move? This is beginning to sound like I am invincible! However, just to be safe I ordered Macduff's wife and children to be killed and soon to be any others who stand in my way.

Journal #6
Im beginning to fear for my wife's sanity. She sleepwalks, sleep talks and she writes secret things and hides them. The gentlewoman refuses to say what my wife says in her madness, but I can guess. What else has she done that could cause her to do this, her guilt is also getting the better of her. However, she deserves it. Not long ago I loved her but this evil deed that we committed together has torn us apart. I cannot look at her the same way anymore. I blame her for all of this, if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have gone through with Duncan's murder in the first place and everything would be fine. Nevertheless, I killed the king. I have made my bed and now I must lay in it.

Journal #7
My world is falling apart piece by piece. All my most faithful have deserted me, my wife has completely lost her mind, Im losing my mind and I'm hearing rumors of Macduff and Malcolm planning an ambush on me. The only thing keeping me going at this point are the witches' predictions. If they are right which they have been so far, I will keep my kingship and live a long life. It is impossible for a man no to be born from a woman and for the woods to start moving. This is what I say to myself constantly throughout the day to ease my paranoia. It will not last for long. I fear the worst has yet to come.

Journal #8
Another one of the witches' predictions have come true! The madness, I have just been informed the the Birnam Woods seem to be moving toward the castle! Oh how can I fight in this condition, I have just lost my beloved wife. She has killed herself,  through our struggle I seemed to have forgotten how much I truly loved her. Now I will never see her pretty face again. I shall fight to the death! I shall seek out Macduff on the battle field and slaughter him as I slaughtered his family and as I have slaughtered everyone who has stood in my path so far . One last prediction stands, but I'm confident it will never come true. I cannot be killed, I shall come out of this victorious! Unless Macduff is not born from a woman. The witches have warned me of Macduff and I will be prepared. If I die today I will have died fighting and will die a true warrior! I pray this will not be the last I write here but I promise will not go down easy.

Part 2 identity project

''You have to do the best with what god gave you.''-Ms.Gump. This quote helped me understand her identity by showing immediately that she was religious and very optimistic about life believing you can turn any situation into a good one. The reason I chose the images of Allen Iverson as a child and adult is to show how he came from a not so fortunate situation growing up in the ghetto of south central Los Angeles but how he didn’t let that set him back and made the best of what he was given and turned into one of the greatest NBA players of all time. This also makes up Allen Iverson’s identity as one of the most tough and determined payers to ever wear a jersey in the NBA and it started from where he grew up.

''Life's like a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you're gonna get.''-Ms.Gump. This quote helped me understand Ms.Gumps identity by revealing her look on life as an unpredictable meaning she’s flexible and always accepting the unexpected. I chose the image of some Poker chips and cards because they represent chance and risk. In poker and gambling there is no sure things and you never know what kind of cards you will get and have to be prepared for anything.

''Dear God, make me a bird. So I could fly far. Far far away from here.''-Jenny Curran. This quote helps to understand Jenny’s identity by showing how she is first off religious and believes in god. Also how she is growing up in an abusive environment that she does not want to be in. This is later shown by how Jenny is a wanderer never staying in a home for very long because she really was raised that way and never was comfortable in one place. I chose the picture of the lion hunting the zebra because of how much the zebra would be wishing it could just fly away and be anywhere in the world except the jaws of a vicious Lion looking for dinner.

''Mama always said you have to put the past behind you to move on.''-Forrest Gump. This quote shows how Forrest is an extremely resilient individual who is very good at moving forward in life and not looking back on things often. I chose an Image of NFL football star Michael Vick to represent the quote. I chose this because how many know Michael was a star in the NFL till he was convicted of running several illegal dog-fighting rings and sentenced to 2 years in prison. When he came out he was a changed man and put his past mistakes behind him to become a better player then he ever was before.

''They told me you'd kill me. I came to find out. But killing isn't easy. You can take my word for it.''-Torres (Just Lather That’s All). This quote shows the identity of general Torres by showing immediate bravery for he walked into the hands of the enemy presenting himself the opportunity to be killed just to prove a point. But also that the man was not the heartless mercenary he seemed to be to the rebels because of how he says killing isn’t easy. I chose the picture of the crying soldier because of how difficult it must be for them to kill in battle just like Torres said it would be.

''And he was rich yes, richer than a king. And admirably schooled in every grace: In fine, we thought that he was everything. To make us wish that we were in his place.''-Richard Cory. This shows us that the identity of Richard Cory is a very admirable one. How he was extremely wealthy and well brought up pretty much overall just an excellent well rounded member of society. Also how the public was jealous and wanted to be just like him. I chose a picture of Vinnie Chase from the TV show entourage because nearly every man in the entire world would love to be in his place. Rich good looking well mannered and educated Vinnie lives the good life very similarly too Richard Cory.

''So it was going to be very difficult to explain that I had him right in my hands and let him go peacefully.''-Barber (Just Lather That’s All). What this says about the barbers identity is that he is not a murderer but at the same time self conscious and worried what his peers would think if he lets this slip out of his grasp when he had a chance to end the life of general Torres once and for all. I chose the Picture of David Freese Hitting the walk off homerun to win the world series because the Texas Rangers were one strike away from ending it all but they let it slip away from them at the most vital moment and it ended up costing them the championship.
 This is Part 2
The EQ I believe connects most with my visual was how are people transformed through their relationships with others? We all just want to be accepted for who we are. Unfortunately for some of us that is something difficult for our peers, friends and family to comprehend. When they are constantly seeing a different aspect of who we are. It is sometimes that we strive to fit a mold either to be the way others want us to be or act a certain way to be perceived a way we want to be perceived as. Often it is not an accurate portrayal of who we are. From the day we are born the relationship with our parents effects who we are for example with Greg from Brother Dear has an unhealthy relationship with his father prompting him to be very closed with his emotions and having a private identity all because of that relationship with his father being one that he wasn’t proud of.  So individually those around us are constantly affecting our identities.
